Sociopaths keep increasing in destructive power. It is no longer unusual for a madman with a gun to fire into crowds. Larger and larger bombs are used to target ever larger and more public targets. And now the most dangerous weapons of all: the toxins and the biological weapons are beginning to be used against people. The chances of being shot, poisoned, or blown up either mostly or entirely at random continues to increase. How long will it be before the kill rate for individual events is increased by nuclear and biological technologies? This more than anything else clearly demonstrates the need we have as individuals to get along with one another. In the absence of basic trust there can be no real safety.
